Foreign Embassies in Barcelona
The nearest official delegations are located in Barcelona, with most of the countries represented by their Consulates, with some exceptions. Spain has a large network of foreign Embassies and Consulates, which are there to help foreign citizens who visit or come to live in the country.
There are a number of things Consulates and Embassies can do for you.
They can:
Issue emergency passports or safe-conducts in case of expiry, loss or robbery;
Inform you on medical, legal and educational services available in Spain;
Give help to detainees;
Transfer money for urgent situations that might arise, including repatriation;
Register you onto the Civil Register, issue affidavits, legalise documents as well as other administrative procedures.
However they do not:
Provide travel agency services;
Guarantee special treatment in a hospital or prison;
Lend money or pay fines;
Act as an interpreter, guide or social assistant;
Advice to Foreign Citizens coming to Spain:
Carrying photocopies of your tickets and passports will make the process much easier should your documents be stolen.
Make sure you have medical insurance to cover costs for any accidents or illnesses.
You should register with your local Consulate office if you are planning to stay in Spain for longer than three months, or permanently.

Reporting thefts in Barcelona or Girona airport
If you have something stolen, you need to go to the police. There are three types of police authorities in Barcelona - the Guardia Civil who wear green, the Policia Municipal who wear light blue and the Mossos d\'Esquadra, who wear a dark blue uniform. The Mossos d\'Esquadra are slowly taking over from the Guardia Civil and the Policia Nacional in Catalonia, and they are the ones you need to go to ro report thefts and petty crimes.
